The Makati CB

Oh where, oh where could I be?

From where did I take this picture of Makati?

The moon is out

It’s the Chinese Mooncake Festival once again, and what better way to celebrate than to indulge in your favorite Chinese delicacies.

SM North has a week-long exhibit of Chinese goodies in front of Cinderella, facing Mc Donald’s. Shangri-la plaza mall makes this an annual affair, located at the ground floor, near Toby’s and Tokyo Tokyo.

By the way, anybody know how to easily pry the plastic lining off a tikoy?

Watch that meter

When riding a cab, make sure you have a clear view of the meter. Why? Because some cab’s meters runs too damn fast.

The cab I took home from SM North EDSA had a VERY fast meter. The amount displayed when we got to my house was ridiculous: Php87.50 for a ride that usually amounts to Php52.50; Php60.00 max. I was really surprised when I looked at it, since I never looked at the meter when I got inside nor even once during the ride. Bah.

I was too pissed when I got off and wasn’t able to get the cab’s name and plate number. But as a precaution, check the meter if it’s at Php30.00 when you get in, and check it occasionally.

Taxi to the rescue

No, not a heart-warming story about a heroic deed of a taxi driver.

Don’t you just hate it when there’s hardly any cabs around when you need them and there’s plenty when you don’t have enough money for them? This is not a guaranteed solution, but I hope this helps you in the future when you’re looking for a cab.

Notice those cabs with a very loud and crackling two-way radios? You can call their office and “order” for a cab. If you’re lucky, you can get a cab within 10 minutes, depending on how near the responding cab is, and whether he got lost en route to where you are.

You can call them ahead of time and ask for a cab to pick you up on a certain time/date. I think these days they are charging Php20-Php50 for pick-ups

Are you Phasmatic?

Tsk, you wash your hands after ironing? *shakes head* Your hands are going to get pasma.

– My oldersister, talking to our niece

I always hear this from aunts and mothers and older cousins. “:Don’t wash your hands after a long day of typing,” “Don’t wet your feet right after taking off your shoes,” etc.

What is pasma anyway? What are the effects? Having extremely sweaty and shaky hands? Developing ugly vein-y hands and feet when you get old? Numbness? Hmmm?

Top 5 ways to know if you are a filipino

All apologies to Neni Sta. Romana-Cruz.

Top 5 ways to know if you are a Filipino.

5. You point with your mouth.
This is a weird habit and I confess to have done this. Funny thing is, you often understand where they’re pointing at.

Things that make you go boom!

I was awaken by a very loud boom the other day. I never realized it was going to be this exciting to live near the Police Academy (about 2 kilometers away).

Crepe-ing Me Up and Down

yummy crepe!
Yummy crepe-y!

So who haven’t been to a Cafe Breton yet? It seems to be everybody’s favourite cafe these days. If you’re a regular customer and have tried everything on the menu or want something just a little different than what is offered, do try my favourite: Order regular crepe. From the toppings section, select chocolate syrup and a scoop (or two) of vanilla ice cream. I think it’s like La Pinay, but without the fruit slices. I’m positively craving one right now…

Transport Strike: An exercise in futility

There is another nationwide transport strike today as jeepney organizations and drivers protest the continued rise of gas prices and the slow increase in fare rates. As the issues raised by the drivers and operators are real, the question still remains in the effectiveness of transport strikes and a long term solution to the problem.
