Flickring Manila

Is this the Manila you know?

Somebody at the forums posted about the Flickr World Map. I went to the site to check it out, and when I hovered my cursor over the Philippines, this is what I saw:

That was yesterday. Today, I was going through Flickr photos tagged as Manila, I came across that photo. I opened the user’s photostream written there was this text:

contact [email address deleted] for information about meeting Michelle on your next trip to Manila

Is that what Manila is for others? A place to meet dates and future wives? Disturbing this is that the women featured are photographed in various stages of undress.

*le sigh*

This is very sad, Nina, but it IS Manila for many people, especially in Europe where we are least understood.

I am glad you brought this up, though. Those living in ivory towers may yet know the real score.

BTW, i’ve been going through the recent entries. I think metblogs has other cities in its list around the world, yet the entries look like they were written only to be understood by locals, and not by foreign readers. I enjoy the Bangkok metblog most of all, since writers are mostly expats who – believe it or not – provide a better view of Thailand’s culture than the locals.

I really look forward to Manila doing this more instead of personal rants :-)
