Shopping madness

In the forums I frequent, the US residents are excited about two things: the turkey dinner and Black Friday.

Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, is historically one of the busiest retail shopping days of the year. Many consider it the “official” beginning to the holiday season. The “black” in the name comes from the standard accounting practice of using red ink to denote negative values (losses) and black ink to denote positive values (profits). Black Friday is the day when retailers traditionally get back “in the black” after operating “in the red” for the previous months, often by cutting prices considerably. In addition, most retailers will open very early.

I heard my sister-in-law talking to my sister about it, and she said people line up in front of the stores as early as 4am. She even said that you can even buy a TV for $20 (I didn’t heard what kind of TV it is though).

That got me thinking, what if we do something like a Black Friday or Boxing day ala Canada instead of having a “sale” every weekend?

many people lined up outside the stores for as many as 27 hours just to get the new version of microsoft’s X-Box called X-Box 360… one guy got robbed outside the store cuz of his new X-box 360. :(( For the $20 TV, it’s usually an unknown brand.

I went to Best Buy in Daly city, CA on Black Friday and they won’t let us in bec. they can only hold a number of people inside the store. You have to wait for someone to get out before you can come in. BTW, it was raining too!

@ Walmart, they were selling HP laptops for $400 (only 30 per store), crazy huh?
