Crash! Boom! Bang!

Well, no crashes yet, but the booms and bangs are definitely getting louder in our village. And it’s only 8 o’clock in the evening, and it’s sure to get even louder as midnight nears.

Must close all the windows. And thank god for ear plugs.

Anyway, savor the last couple of hours of 2005, and welcome 2006 with a bang! (And not a crash!)

Opening soon?

As soon as the SM Mall of Asia along Bay Boulevard, off Diosdado Macapagal Ave., formally opens, D-Mac is going to be congested like hell and pretty soon, you’d be taking Roxas Boulevard and be braving Baclaran to “avoid heavy traffic” instead of the other way around.

Of course, I could always be totally wrong. :D
(Sorry about the photo quality. Couldn’t take a better photo.)

EDIT: I’ve just found out that the SM Mall of Asia is slated for opening in February of the coming year.

Can’t wait. ;)

Places to spend New Year – Eastwood, Libis

Eastwood City in Libis

If you want to party up the night with your friends from the call center agencies, you can head on up to Eastwood city in Libis on New Year’s eve. There will be a countdown and an open bar (until supplies last) from 10pm to 11pm. Several live bands (sorry no final line up) will be serving up the music to last the night away.

Watch out for more places to spend new year in Manila. We’ll be posting it up until tomorrow afternoon. Meanwhile, a happy new year to all from everyone in Manila!

Ukay-ukay in Manila

As my Christmas present to Manila Metblogs readers (or at least those who shop in ukay-ukays), I will reveal my formerly-top-secret favorite ukay-ukay shop in Metro Manila.

Ukay-ukay shops have sprouted like mushrooms in the Metro, but if you’ve ever been to Baguio, you’ll find that the ones found here simply can’t compare. 1) The prices are much lower in Baguio. Of course, ukay-ukay prices in Baguio have gone up as well, since they know that Manilenos like to shop there (tip: learn to speak Ilocano), but the lowest price you can get in Manila is 150. And to top it off, you can’t haggle in Manila ukay-ukay shops for some unknown reason.

World Pyro Olympics in Manila

I missed today’s display, but to anyone who’d stumble across this post and is in the Manila area, be sure to count down the days ’til the new year and come see the World Pyro Olympics, an annual international competition amongst the most prestigious fireworks companies in the world, at the Esplanade, near the SM Mall of Asia on Bay Boulevard. Heavy traffic should be expected at the Diosdado Macapagal Highway during these hours, but it’d be worth it.

The event started yesterday, with China, inventors of the first true fireworks, putting up the first display, and would be going on with two displays per day ’til the 30th of December.

Tomorrow, December 28, the Russian Federation’s fireworks display would kick off at 7.30p and shall be followed by that of the United Kingdom at 9.00p.

Several bands, such as Imago, the Radio Active Sago project, and the Brownbeat All-Stars, are scheduled to perform during the course of the event.

Consult their website for the event program and other details.

Maligayang Pasko!

The Christmas season is now upon as all! (Alright, it has already been upon us all since September but anyway…) I stumbled upon this article on how to celebrate a Filipino Christmas. I have taken the liberty of reposting it here. You may visit the original page or read on here. Enjoy.

Green Makati

What I like about the Makati CBD is that even there are towering buildings all around, there are plenty of trees and plants to keep the view refreshing to the eye.
