Pacquiao update

There’s a Round-by-Round update regarding the Morales-Pacquiao match at ESPN so it’s not necessary to comment and ask us for updates.

Or, as Neil Gaiman suggested, Google It! It’s not going to be hard. ;)

Morales update

He may have lost to Pacquiao this time but he sure is way good looking for boxing. I suggest he move to the Philippines and start a showbiz career. :P

Quote unquote(from 15rounds.com)

“It was a tough fight. I was tired of getting punched in the head .. I was just tired.”
- Erik Morales

“I know my people are celebrating right now. They’re very happy!!”
- Manny Pacquiao

Mr. Kebab

What do you do when you find yourself craving for a shawarma at 3 in the morning?

You go to Mr. Kebab, of course.

At the corner of West and Quezon Avenue, in between a supermarket and a seedy-looking carinderia stands Mr. Kebab — a 24-hour restaurant serving the (in my opinion anyway) best middle eastern dishes in Quezon City.

I used to go there for the shawarma, but have now progressed to, and highly recommending, Mr. Kebab’s Beef Beryani, Keema with Eggplant and Beef Korma. Mmmmmm, curry.

Next time you’re in Quezon Ave., drop by Mr. Kebab’s and treat your taste buds to something out of the ordinary.

Love mo si Kris?

Miss seeing Kris Aquino’s face on every freakin’ post on every major highway? Well, you’ll be happy that her endorsements on TV are now appearing one after the other.

I was watching American Idol on ABC 5 tonight and for two hours, three Kris Aquino commercials were being consecutively shown during every single break. One was for a phone company, one was for a corned beef brand, and the other was a San Miguel spot that has been running for months now. Come to think of it, I’m grateful it’s only three as I now remember one other commercial she’s in.

Pinoy Big Brother alum Sam, who seems to want to give Kris a run for her money as the most overexposed celebrity (he’s everywhere these days!), has his work cut out for him.

“We deliver!”

I’ve been going to the Fully Booked website quite a bit these days but something dawned on me for the first time today: they deliver?!

Wow.

The number is 898-0283. The idea of ringing a bookstore to get a book delivered is… weird. I guess it will never really replace actually going to the store to pick out a book but it is quite convenient for busy people. I’m thinking gift-buyers who have a title and the author’s name but can’t be bothered to go to the mall.

Over at the Rice Bowl Journals forums, people not living in the Philippines were pretty amazed that KFC and McDonald’s (and practically everyone else) deliver here. Well, apparently, the bookstores are next. (You can online over at the National Bookstore website, but that’s not the same as picking up the phone to order.)

Church of the Holy Sacrifice (Diliman)

I’ve been in and out of UP Diliman every single schoolday (minus Wednesdays of course) and yet I barely noticed anything special about the Church of the Holy Sacrifice. The last time I went inside the church just last December, I felt it needed a painting makeover!

According to Professor Ambeth Ocampo, the 50-year old church was declared as a National Historical Landmark by the National Historical Institute just last week – last January 12, 2006 to be exact. A bronze marker was also put in place that tells of the church’s history.

I would pick the Gesu at the Ateneo campus anytime but what makes the UP church extra special for me is the paintings of National Artist Vicente Manansala whose works I’ve really admired since I first encountered him in high school.

I just hope they would be able to restore the Church of the Holy Sacrifice into a good condition especially now that people might want to visit it all the more because of this recognition.

Noooooooooooooo!

Year of the Dog

This is part of Rina Jimenez-David’s column last Sunday:

Another mother I know asked her daughter a few days before the wedding if she knew enough about sex. “Mom!” her daughter exclaimed. “I breed dogs, and I’ve watched Popsie and Mopsie (her pet Chow-chows) mate!” “Well, that’s good,” said the mother, and then, remembering something, shot back: “But don’t copy them, OK?”

:P

Attack of the clones

I had a couple of appointments in Makati today, and what better way to get around the CBD than to walk?

From the unloading zone in between Paseo de Roxas and Hererra, to the Standard Chartered Building, to Legazpi Village, to Greenbelt, Landmark, Glorietta, then finally, the MRT. I saw a guy 5 times. Stalker?

On the fifth time I saw him, it dawned on me that it wasn’t the same guy. They were 5 different guys, with the same style: similar hairdo, flesh/beige colored macho shirt, faded jeans, fashionable sneakers.

Yet, it’s those who dare to establish their own style and deviate from the norm who gets the most pintas.

Fare hike?

What’s this thing about raising the current MRT-3 fare from P15 to P72? (max)

Apparently, the daily profits of endless commuters is not enough for the operating expenses.

While the MRTC was earning in pesos, its obligations were being paid in dollars, he [MRT Corp. General Manager] said.

Oh dear. If this does come to pass, how in the world will the regular commuter pay for this? P72 is still too much. The general public might just go back to the horrors of bus commuting. And to think I was already jumping with the news of MRT’s project to link the metro to my front gate. (Uhm, okay, at least up to our town anyway.)

*MRT-3 is the EDSA line.
