This week saw the first conquest of the highest mountain on the planet by a Filipino. On Wednesday, Heracleo “Leo” Oracion won the nation’s praise by becoming the first from the country to carry the Philippine flag to the 29,028 summit in Nepal. Then, 17 hours later, teammate Erwin “Pastor” Emata also reached the peak. Following these 2 in hot pursuit is competitor Romeo Garduce, who is expected to reach the summit later today.
“Summit to Base Camp…Ang ginaw-ginaw dito” (”It’s so cold up here!”) Were the words spoken from Mt. Everst’s highest reaches by Emata apon ascending to the summit.
Congratulations to all, and good luck getting back down (reaching the summit is only half the trip!)
