Globe and Smart in Pricing War
As the war of the ATM networks die down, the war of the Mobile networks rages on with the Globe and Smart pricing dispute. Globe has officially filed a case against Smart claiming that Smart and Piltel’s “All Day Texting 258 Call+Text Promo” is “predatory and discriminatory pricing.”
Smart has responded that Globe’s statements were “reckless, indiscriminate and absurd.”
Globe further claims that Smart and Piltel’s licenses should be revoked since Piltel is just riding on Smart’s network. “It would appear that Talk and Text is actually a Smart brand and not that of Piltel… the Piltel authorizations and frequencies should be revoked and recalled… for non-operation or nonuse” claims Globe senior vice president Rodolfo Salalima in an interview with Manila Standard.
On a note, the benefit of the network wars trickle down to consumers as the price of network services (texting, overseas calls) keeps going down and down.
