D.O.T. campaign

i was on my work today when a jeepney caught my attention along makati ave, between landmark and greenbelt. and i was quite suprised to see a department of tourism campaign painted on a jeep. i think this move of ace durano is a very good one. makati is full of expats and diplomats and tourists, so i guess the campaign reaches its actual target market. although, there might be a little problem because the language used is filipino and i think it could have been better if it was in english. maybe…the actual target market are the local tourists. who knows? calling ace durano…

I think they also did this with the London Cabs?
In Singapore, the tourism ads of other countries are in the busses (There was one that says “I’d rather be in Thailand”)
i’ve seen time travel’s special on the dep’t. of tourism’s projects in specific tourists spots and ace durano isn’t only doing a good job. he’s doing a great one ’cause with all the bad publicity that foreigners are exposed to, courtesy of the medias’s sensationalized journalism (constant projection of the Philippine’s problems regardless if they’re of national concern or not — 10 individuals rallying infront of the Quiapo church getting the major headline and photo in Philippine Star), lots of foreigners still manage to visit our country. Not only that, the time travel special also indicated an increase in the visits of local tourists (that would include me; i’ve finally gone out of Manila to enjoy other provinces!). The jeepneys with the new campaign is probably designed for both local and foreign tourists. And, interestingly, some of the foreign tourists I’ve encountered are also interested to talk in Tagalog (or in any of our dialects) to really enjoy their experience of the Philippines. It’s enough already that English is the chief language used in conducting business and for self-expression in Manila (like this one). It’s about time that Tagalog is used where it can shine. Behind na nga tayo sa other Asian countries kahit na ang galing-galing nating mag-English. I am just shocked na may mga local glossy mags containing Tagalog quotes tapos mali ang spelling. Pilipinong magaling sa English pero mahina sa Tagalog? Ano sila foreigners sa sariling lupa?
