Cheap and free Manila

So I found myself volunteering to write a Cheap and Free Manila guide for the Bootsnall Travel Community. I’m not really that familiar with Manila City myself, but I figured this is the perfect way for me to get to know the city more.

I’d love to hear your recommendations for places to stay, restaurants to try, things to do, either free or within backpacker budget. Oh, any tips on the best way to get to and from the airport aside from taking a cab?

I’m going to do one for Quezon City and Makati next, but for now, I’m sticking to Manila. Looking forward to your suggestions! :)

The BootsnAll Travel site looks awesome, Nina! It’s great you’re writing for Manila! When I get ideas I’ll drop you a line. Basta backpackers ang target market? Tama ba?

    Yup! Thanks Toni!

BootnAll is a great resource and reaches a wide market of travellers, so it’d be great to contribute articles to promote Manila :)

One of the cheapest, fastest (and cleanest?) ways to get around is through the LRT/MRT system.

It runs the course of Metro Manila from North to South (LRT Monumento-Baclaran), North to West(MRT North Ave-Taft) and East to West (LRT Marikina-Taft).

You can easily go from the Marikina Riverbanks to Luneta then to Glorietta using the LRT/MRT system.

Most museums have a day of the week when admission is free! From what I can remember, it’s usually Wednesday or Thursday but is different for each museum. You can probably call them up to ask – contact numbers are on clickthecity.com :)
