Eid’l Fitr Holiday!
Just in case you still haven’t heard (you probably just came out of a thousand year slumber), Malacanang has declared October 24, 2006, a Tuesday, as a regular holiday throughout the country. Proclamation no 1155 says it aims “to promote cultural understanding and integration, the entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr.”
Eid’l Fitr or Feast of Ramadan marks then end of 40 days of fasting for our Muslim brothers and sisters. This celebration only started having relevance to me when I met my good friend Al who’s a Muslim. Hariraya puasa! (I hope I got that right.)

Woohoo! That’s two long weekends in a row. Now if only all Mondays are holidays.
