Hanging Around
A foot sticking out of the car window. A hand dangling lazily from the backseat. Bare feet pressed against the windshield. It’s common to see these things on the road. You’re waiting for the traffic light to turn green, then lo and behold, a truck pulls up beside you. What appalls you goes beyond the smoke-belching machine and the rusty exterior. It’s the dirty feet pressed against the side mirror! It’s pretty disgusting. The other morning I saw this figure, limbs hanging out of a jeepney. The cars and other jeeps were honking right beside him but he wouldn’t budge! I guess they didn’t get threats like “Don’t stick anything out of the car window!” when they were young. All that matters is for them to relax as comfortably as possible in their own vehicles, much to the dislike of motorists around them.

I also see this kind of disturbing sight from time to time. I worry when children stick out their arms in a moving vehicle. But it’s annoying when the adults do it.
Another thing, I sometimes wonder why some people feel compelled to put out their arm when making a turn. Haven’t they heard of signal lights? :)
Road courtesy is not one of our best qualities. Manila is definitely where Offensive Driving is king.
