As I was looking through one of the Fiction aisles in Powerbooks Greenbelt, I heard someone singing about two shelves down. I ignored the singing and continued on browsing. When I got to the science fiction aisle, I discovered the source of the song. In one corner was a demure-looking lady browsing through a romance novel and yes, she was still singing, oblivious to the looks people were sending her way. She seemed like she was enjoying herself!
I went around the bookstore some more. After half an hour of browsing, I heard the singing again. It was the same lady browsing through a different book this time but still singing the same song. It was certainly amusing. I found myself quietly humming along.

Books Plus Food = Heaven
This equation could certainly make my day and perhaps yours too. I recently discovered Press Cafe as I was checking out the books at the newly opened Fully Booked at The Block, SM North. The scent of food draw me in and as I saw the prices, well, it made me stay.
Press Cafe is the sister company of Fully Booked (according to the store manager). So far, there are only two branches of Press Cafe, the main one located in Rockwell and the newly-opened store at The Block. If you happen to stumble upon Press cafe, here are some of the “best-sellers” you need to take note of:

First there were the rumors, then there was the false hope of seeing a stall at the SM Mall of Asia slated for the store. Next, we read the confrimation in the newspapers, and now, we are hearing from the media that Krispy Kreme is indeed opening its flagship store this November 30 at Taguig.
Mark your calendars: I hear the very first customer will get free doughnuts for a year. Mmmmmmmm (ala Homer Simpson).

It is night time. You are driving along Makati Ave. when the traffic light turns red. You shift to neutral. As you hum along to your iPod’s music, a shadow emerges from behind your car window. From the corner of your eye, you can see it is a little boy begging you to buy his last garland of sampaguita so he can finally go home. He presses his face against the glass some more. The same is happening to the halted cars; each one has a child in grey and tattered clothes carrying carrying garlands of the sweet-smelling white flowers pressed against its windows. It is a sad evening scene that replays one too many times.
I am sharing with you two poems. The first is called “Pula Ang Ilaw.” I wrote this for Blogkadahan months ago, but it is fitting that I share it here on Manila Metroblogging as well. It is one side of Manila that isn’t pretty but is still very much real and one that should not be ignored (if you choose not to). The second poem “Uy, Pula Na Ang Ilaw” was written by teacher and poet Tito Rolly in response to the first poem. The poems are in Tagalog. Read them here.

Today, courtesy of Pandora, my status message in Messenger betrayed a liking for all things Tony Bennett. So a colleague saw it fit to give me an event alert. Very much appreciated, nevertheless – which is why I’ll be quick to spread the word myself. After all, Christmas is the season for saxophones.
