Bikram Yoga in Manila

It’s the season for sacrifice. How about losing some weight, gaining some height, balancing the mind and body, and finding peace in the process? You can try yoga. Better yet – you can try Bikram Yoga.

Say what?

Bikram Yoga entails a series of 26 yoga postures in a heated room – more heated than whatever has come of Manila upon the advent of summer. In this class, you see, room temperatures are kept at 38°C, with an average humidity of 60 percent. You don’t need the numbers to understand that even without moving around too much, Bikram Yoga will have you sweat those extra pounds away. Moreover, it helps manage stress, remove tension headaches, increase energy and prevent sports injuries.

Several of my colleagues have signed up for the classes already, in much the same excitement as for a trip to the beach, even waiting for…nay, persuading me to join (but I can’t get any skinnier!). In any event, it’s never self-indulgent to keep your body fit and your mind focused. It’s only a worthy sacrifice.
