All Praises for Kimono Ken

http://manila.metblogs.com/archives/images/2007/06/DSC063511-thumb.JPGIt’s been ages since I’ve eaten in a restaurant I’ve raved about. Do try Kimono Ken at The Podium. Let me tell you what I love about them.

First, there’s the very courteous service. From the time we stepped foot near the entrance till the time we stepped out, the staff was always so gracious. Ang galing. I like how attentive their waiters were. They’d refill our water glasses without our asking, clear our tables when the plates are empty. I like how well-mannered they were, always smiling! That’s something you don’t see much of now. Even if the place was full, even if they were rushing around with trays filled with orders, they would be smiling. And the thing is, they just didn’t look happy. They felt happy. I could feel it. It made my mealtime very pleasurable.

Second, there’s the food. I love their generous portions. I like how their Tuna Sashimi is served cold, thick and fresh, unlike other Japanese restaurants that serve slivers of sashimi. Their California Maki was also very good. Tightly-packed, tasted fresh. It looks just like any other maki, but it tastes more delicious.

Omu Rice? I’m not sure of the title. It’s their rice omelet. Japanese rice wrapped in egg, drizzled with a sweet sauce. Yummy!

This is their Sashimi Plate. Ang sarap din! Their servings are just right, the sashimi all good-tasting and fresh.

Gyoza. I REALLY liked their gyoza. The filling was very flavorful on its own. In some restaurants, you’d have to rely on the soy sauce to give the gyoza its flavor. This one was much more flavorful, more scrumptious.

We also tried a pork curry and rice dish which tasted fantastic, and a bowl of soup… oh dang, I forgot what it was called. It was also very delicious.

The final reason why I like Kimono Ken is its reasonable price. Value for money! For all the meals (pork curry and bowl of soup not part of this), the grand total came to about P500++. Good for two to three people. For the great service, the generous portions and the delightful ambiance, that is definitely value for money.

I haven’t tried Kimono Ken in other branches. Give the branch at The Podium a try. I hope you have an experience as wonderful as mine.

My mom really loves eating at Kimono Ken. Every time we ask her where she wants to eat to celebrate a certain occasion she always says Kimono Ken.

The only branch we’ve gone to is the one at Tomas Morato. I don’t think I’ve eaten there enough times yet (my mom has, though) to properly evaluate the place. But considering that my mom keeps wanting to eat there, and she’s very picky with the restaurants she goes to, I would have to say that it’s more than good enough.

There’s another Kimono Ken branch in The Block at SM North.
