The Philippines once had a peaceful revolution called People Power, led by Cory Aquino. She was the wife of the late Sen. Benigno Aquino, one of our country’s heroes. After the People Power revolution, she became president and the rest was history.

I was in grade school when she was president so I have to admit that I won’t remember anything much about her term except what everyone else has told me, and what I’ve read. There were people who didn’t quite agree with how she handled the affairs of the state. But I best remember her as the woman who had this quiet strength about her, a woman who had so much faith a woman who became a mother to the nation. For those of you who want to remember her, Pinoy Fear Factor has a blog post as a tribute to her: Corazon “Cory” Aquino’s life in photos.

Now that she has passed away due to colon cancer, I hope that she is already at peace with the God she believes in. And I also hope that whatever we learned from her will live in our hearts and be reflected in our actions as Filipinos who, as her husband said, are worth dying for.

Anime enthusiasts gathered in SM Megamall’s Megatrade Hall for O-zine Fest 2008 last weekend. I only went there on Saturday but there were a lot of people. It was a very colorful event, so to speak. And it was amusing to see twins of cosplays. For example, there were two guys cosplaying as Naruto and they were posing for a photo-op. There were also two Haruhis from the anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I also saw someone cosplay Card Captor Sakura, with a small Kero-chan on her shoulder! See the evidence:

There were other activities for those who were interested in games like fish-scooping, drawing, eating contests (Whoopee!) and there was something similar to sumo wrestling but the participants had to be in poring costumes, which was quite amusing to watch.

It’s really fun watching people who are having lots of fun with friends and fellow fans! I just wish that there’d be a better layout so that the merchandise area wouldn’t be as congested as it was during the day my friends and I went there.

Sometimes you just feel like chilling out, talking over coffee. Irish coffee is something my SO really felt like having the other night and he got it from Petruss, right across ELJ Building. It’s been a long day. The coffee was a delight, as he said. Even the presentation is delightful. The coffee prices in Petruss are fairly ok, cheaper than Starbucks. The ambiance is pretty ok too and it’s more than a coffee shop – they have pasta too!

Sometimes people get sick. Lately I’ve been getting sick too often and the doctors that I used to consult were based in QC. Now that I am working in Makati I decided that I should probably go consult with doctors near my office and that’s where Makati Med comes in.

If you’re from QC, you could take the MRT to Buendia and get on an Ayala-LRT bus. You’d have to get down by RCBC then cross the street to Makati Med. You’d see the sign Makati Medical Center so that shouldn’t be too difficult.

I like the people at the Information Booth because they are friendly and helpful. Last week I asked if an EENT specialist and gave me the name, room number and complete sked of the doctor. Today, I went there for a follow-up and after the EENT told me I was clear of any ear and throat infections, I asked the person at the information counter about the skeds of their gastroenterologists and neurologists. The woman gave me a pamphlet with the details :)

I also once visited a friend who was confined there and he said that he had excellent treatment. I like it when hospitals are efficient and have friendly doctors, nurses and staff.

KFC has a new offering called Orange Chicken (or maybe Chicken Orange, I am not so sure right now). It’s basically yummy chicken strips with orange sauce. It’s something similar to lemon chicken but the chicken is done in the traditional KFC style. It’s only Php 59 so I think it’s worth it :) The mushroom I got was Php15. Not bad for a meal in Makati, especially when working late in the office.

If you are craving for ome rice (also known as omelette rice and omu rice), try Hang Kang’s ome rice. I suppose that Filipinos who like eating omelettes or torta would say that this is probably weird because there’s fried rice in the omelette itself. It’s a Korean dish and it’s really yummy. You could even have some noodles in it.

My sister says that it’s a tricky treat so that kids will end up eating vegetables though. Hehehe.

This yoghurt drink has been advertised on TV so frequently and my co-workers and I simply had to go to three 7-11 branches this afternoon to buy the different flavors of it. At P16, it’s not so bad, really. Considering that the other brand, Magnolia or Nestle is more than double the price of this one.

It’s kind of funny, isn’t it? Going through the 7-11 branches here in the Ayala area just for this. Well, there’s this other product called E-aji and it still bugs us that it’s cheaper in 7-11 than in SM’s grocery.

I first saw the video of their song Jeepney on Channel 23 and I got hooked to the song. Right now, I am listening to the tracks on their album Manila High and I can’t help but enjoy the songs. They are upbeat and funky. One of the tracks I really like is Parapap. Another is the mix of their carrier single Jeepney. As my SO puts it, Kala reminds him of POT but with with a smoother vibe and I agree with him on that.
