I missed today’s display, but to anyone who’d stumble across this post and is in the Manila area, be sure to count down the days ’til the new year and come see the World Pyro Olympics, an annual international competition amongst the most prestigious fireworks companies in the world, at the Esplanade, near the SM Mall of Asia on Bay Boulevard. Heavy traffic should be expected at the Diosdado Macapagal Highway during these hours, but it’d be worth it.

The event started yesterday, with China, inventors of the first true fireworks, putting up the first display, and would be going on with two displays per day ’til the 30th of December.

Tomorrow, December 28, the Russian Federation’s fireworks display would kick off at 7.30p and shall be followed by that of the United Kingdom at 9.00p.

Several bands, such as Imago, the Radio Active Sago project, and the Brownbeat All-Stars, are scheduled to perform during the course of the event.

Consult their website for the event program and other details.
