There are a lot of great places to get dessert in Manila, but only a few serve really good apple pie. In my book, the best apple pie is served by the folks at Sugarhouse.

Their French Apple Pie is very delicious. Once they lay that plate in front of you, all diets go to the trash. The aroma of cinnamon and apples is just intoxicating. The crust is buttery and crumbles in your mouth (not on your fork!). The filling is divine. It’s always juicy, moist, chewy. The pie is then topped with shavings of cheese. The light saltiness of cheese balances the sweetness of the pie really well. Each pie is served with a huge dollop of whipped cream that just heightens an already thrilling eating experience.

Their French Apple Pie is LOVE.

Sugarhouse restaurants can be found in major malls like Greenhills Shopping Center, SM Megamall, Power Plant, and lots more. Another dish of theirs you should try is their Beef Salpicado. That deserves its own entry too!

Hubby and I had lunch at John and Yoko at Greenbelt 5. I’ve heard a lot of great things about this restaurant so we decided to give it a whirl.

The atmosphere was pretty snazzy. Lots of purples, reds and blacks. Interesting concept. We were there for the food though so we wasted no time asking our server for recommendations. Here’s what we got.

For appetizers, we got some Crunchy Squid Teriyaki. It was delicious! Just the right blend of saltiness and sweetness.

Then we went for some Tofu Cheese Melt. I really didn’t want to get this but my hubby insisted on it. The fusion was quite intriguing in concept. And in taste? It was okay. I couldn’t marry the idea of tofu with the crumbled bacon and melted cheese I usually have with nachos. Still, it is an appetizer worth trying.

We also got some Chawan Mooshi Shooters (not sure if I spelled that right…). They’re steamed eggs with shrimp, ground meat and crabstick. Delicious!!! My favorite part of our whole lunch experience.

For our main meal, we ordered a seafood teppan set, good for two. There was a selection of scallops, salmon, squid, shrimp, oysters and asparagus, served with its own sauce. I LOVED the fried oysters.

And of course, there was rice! We ordered the all-meat rice. It was quite sticky and reminded me of machang. Very tasty!

And they serve house tea to wash all those yummylicious food down.

Will we go back? Definitely. I want to try their sushi and sashimi next time. :) You can find John and Yoko at the 2nd floor of Greenbelt 5.

When you bite into each stick, you’ll see there’s an equal proportion of crabstick and cheese. Good thing they didn’t scrimp on either! It’s good on its own, but with the wasabi mayo, it’s even better.

We tried the Windows Cafe at Robinson’s Galleria. I’ll go back there just for this appetizer!

It had to be served fast so I wouldn’t be late to my meeting. It had to be filling so my tummy wouldn’t grumble during the talk (how embarrassing would that be!). And of course, it had to be delicious so the meal wouldn’t be a waste of time.

I gravitated towards my favorite V Mall spot, the Dimsum & Dumplings Tea House. A picture of this soup on the menu board caught my eye, and so I ordered it right away. Service was fast. A hot bowl of soup was set before me quickly. That filled my first requirement — efficient service. The soup was also filling but not very heavy. Second requirement — check! And finally, was it delicious? Yes it was! Check check check! Too bad my appointment was nearing and I couldn’t slowly relish my meal. I’ll go back and order it next time! Perhaps with a side order of siomai too. :D
